Hello All!
Now that it is 2012 and it has been almost a year since I started booking sessions only on certain days as listed around the 15th of every month on my blog here, I must say it has been working out pretty well for me and has been allowing me to spend more time with family. As I have said once before, I can't thank all of you guys enough for your loyalty!
Besides the approx. 15 sessions a month I am shooting as well as about 10 meetings a month for my business and not including the 60 hours of editing a week I do, I also shoot 80 weddings per year on top of all that! I thrive off of keeping busy and I believe that being busy also keeps in the "know-how" of new trends to keep, stay away from, and just a ton of experience on top of the photography degree I attained 12 years ago. I can't believe it- just last week I hit my 800th wedding!
In general, the session pricing and what is included is generally the same, except for a few small items- please read below what is included in the sessions!
Session availability for the upcoming month for those inquiring about booking a: Senior Photo Session; Family Photo Session; Maternity Session; Boudoir Photo Session; Animal Photo Session; Engagement Photo Session and Newborn Photo Sessions will generally be posted on or around the 15th of every month (for example session dates for February will be posted around January 15th); and I will do my best to let everyone know here on my blog when specifically they will be posted. Booking sessions are on a first come, first served basis and your best bet is to pick up to 3 dates/times that will work for you. Please be sure to pick a location, or to at least have something in mind when you email me. Once I answer your email in the order it was received and the date/time is available, I will send you a confirmation email confirming the date/time/location of the session, the "inclement weather" date, as well as the total fee that will be due the day of the session. Please see below for the pricing for all sessions, as well as what is included. Please also note, more in depth the following:
*A specified "bad weather" date will given to you at the time of booking the appointment, if we have an outdoor shoot scheduled. This is only for inclement weather and is not used as a "reschedule" date if you can no longer make your appointment. I will email you the morning of our shoot if weather is expected to be bad for a good part of the day, which will be at my call (bringing electronic equipment in the rain won't work, neither will sessions in the goopy mud since I like to do sitting/laying shots) lol) Please understand that if we have an outdoor scheduled shoot, if it rains the day of the session we cannot change it to an indoor shoot- these days everyone wants money for photos inside of their "haven," and it is too difficult last minute to schedule- we will just use the rain "reschedule" date I will give you when you book.

*I totally understand that many of you are out of towners, and sometimes this can be difficult to schedule. Just pretty please understand that I am doing my best not only to be able to have a social life with my family, but also not to make you have to book out 6 months in advance like the past. On top of that, it is important to get photos to my peeps (you) in a timely manner, so this is helping with that :)

*If the dates I list on my blog don't work with your schedule, just wait until right around the 15th of the month when I post the availability I have for the next month.

Included in ALL the above listed session is the following:
*Approx. one hour shoot at the location of your choice (travel fees may apply; please see below)
*Approx. 300 high resolution images captured and burned on a DVD
*Approx. 20 "edited" images- aka BW, Sepia, color enhancements, etc, which will be my favorite photos I make these enhancements to- also burned on a DVD
*5 5x7's and 1 8x10 prints of my choosing- and don't worry, I have pretty good taste ;)
*Photo release so you may make copies whenever and wherever you wish
*All of the above sent in about 4 weeks to the address you provide via USPS Priority Mail

Hello All!
Hope everyone has had a magical and fun-filled holiday season complete with large credit card bills, family time, arguments with the in-laws and of course some delicious fattening food!
Just wanted to let you know that I will be posting session availability for February sometime in this coming week- but it will be before Thursday the 12th- I leave for Iceland on Thursday so I am thinking it might be this coming Monday the 9th or even Tuesday the 10th- still working on my schedule for next month ;)

For the past 6 years, I have been booking anywhere from 3 to 6 months in advance for sessions, which is not only very difficult for you to schedule that far in advance, but it also has been quite difficult for me as well. You see, because I work almost every weekend, during the week and on some Sundays is the I only time I get "me" time, or even time to spend with my family. For years I have been missing out on during the week soccer games, birthday parties and other family affairs because I was booked out so far for sessions during the week. To help alleviate your wait time as well as me being able to attend family functions and not be shunned by my parents (lol!) I am trying out the following for this coming year:

SESSION SPECS:

*The cost is $175 for Family/Children Sessions (for families up to five people); non-client Engagement Sessions, Senior Portraits, Trash the Dress Sessions and Boudoir Sessions. Payment is due the day of the session, and travel fees are as follows:

*Anything within 15 miles of Dearborn, MI 48124 there is no extra fee; 15-25 miles $35; 26-40 miles $45; (over 40 miles, please inquire)

Just to let everyone know, I will be posting November availability most likely sometime on Sunday the 16th or Monday the 17th. I am still working out the details for plans around Thanksgiving and such. Please keep in mind the following:

* I will be posting 2 weekend dates for November- these dates will ONLY be allowed to be booked for engagement sessions for couples who already have their weddings booked thru Amanda Williams Photography. This is to accommodate those couples who have been patiently waiting for slots but have not been able to get in yet.

* Once I post sessions, your best best is to pick 3 different session times you are available then email me with them. Remember, session times are at a first come, first served basis upon email

*Recently, outdoor locations have been getting strict on permitting photographs on their grounds. This is frustrating as you would think the more photos that there are floating around, the more advertising they would get, so you got me on that one. The most recent "no-no's" are Belle Isle and Meadowbrook Mansion as well as Mill Race Village in Northville. Here are some available spots that as of today, do not charge- and these spots are also in my travel range, so no travel fees would apply:
Elizabeth Park in Trenton; Heritage Park in Taylor; Downtown Detroit; Downtown Dearborn.

I'm Contemplating A Trip, And Need Advice!

I travel alot, if you haven't figured it out already. I LOVE traveling solo. I love being able to go eat when I want, do the things I want, and drinking a beer at noon if I want on a trip. Plus, I usually travel in the off season so it is much cheaper. Did you know that you can go to Ireland in October and for flight from DTW and 6 nights at a nice Best Western in downtown Dublin for $870 a person? Yep, you can! That being said, I need some help on a very important trip I am contemplating for 2013. All advice is appreciated!
I have traveled so many places and seen so may things. In 2013, I want to do something different- to make a difference.

I plan on taking 4 weeks off work the middle of January until February 2013 and traveling to Africa to volunteer at an orphanage for kids who have nothing. I am planning to use a company called "Eco-Tours" to do this. It's not cheap- but I also won't have to put myself in high levels of danger by not having housing; nor would I placed in a war zone. Another opp. I'm thinking of is with the same company, but instead volunteering at a drug rehabilitation house for women in Tela-viv, Israel. Do any of you know anyone that has done this, or know anything about the aforementioned areas? All I know is that I want to work to make these peoples lives a bit better. HELP/ADVICE!

A Special Note of Thanks

Today after I posted the sessions for October, I had to leave by 10am to deliver Meals on Wheels to my old folks in the neighborhood. On the way there, I merely had a breakdown in my car about the guilt I felt turning over 75 people away; complete with stomach cramps and almost (forgive me for this) pooping myself over the anxiety of turning people away. On my way to deliver the first meal to one of my beloved homebound Seniors, I received this email from my friend/client Kim. Thank you, Kim for sending this. It made everything about my day so wonderful, Olive you!!!!!!!!

"Hey Amanda!! I just wanted you to know that I still follow your blog (of course, duh!) and I wanted to tell you that you really do a great job of being fair, keeping everyone informed of your availability, etc. I see every month how you have to stress that you are doing your very best and that you truly value each and every one of your clients. Having been one of those clients, I know how true this is. I sometimes feel bad that you even have to say that stuff because I imagine that means that people maybe give you a hard time about only being available on certain days/times, etc. I really can't even imagine how much time goes into all of the work that you do after the shoot! I used to think that the photographer would take pictures, and then voila, you have pictures! I didn't realize how much work goes into making people look good! I will email you the morning of our shoot if weather is expected to be bad for a good part of the day, which will be at my call (bringing electronic equipment in the rain won't work, neither will sessions in the goopy mud since I like to do sitting/laying shots) lol) Please understand that if we have an outdoor scheduled shoot, if it rains the day of the session we cannot change it to an indoor shoot- these days everyone wants money for photos inside of their "haven," and it is too difficult last minute to schedule- we will just use the rain "reschedule" date I will give you when you book.

*I totally understand that many of you are out of towners, and sometimes this can be difficult to schedule. Just pretty please understand that I am doing my best not only to be able to have a social life with my family, but also not to make you have to book out 6 months in advance like the past. On top of that, it is important to get photos to my peeps (you) in a timely manner, so this is helping with that :)

*If the dates I list on my blog don't work with your schedule, just wait until right around the 15th of the month when I post the availability I have for the next month.

Included in ALL the above listed session is the following:
*A one hour shoot
*Approx. 300 high resolution images captured
*Approx. 20 "edited" images- aka BW, Sepia, color enhancements, etc, which will be my favorite photos I make these enhancements to
*All images burned on DVD
*Leatherette folio which holds 8 4x6 images of my choice :)
*Photo release so you may make copies whenever and wherever you wish

So, I am back to reality- and I'm not going to lie- I am happy! It was not a "relaxing retreat" or even a "vacation"- instead I was on my yearly adventure with my Father for his birthday. Our "adventures" that happen on a yearly basis consist of me babysitting and controlling everything we do to a tee. My father is a quiet man; and is not one to take the lead, so I must take care of everything. Needless to say, I always get an RX for Xanax before I leave every year because I know it's going to be stressful at times (see the photo below of my dad that I took- this was on our first day in Italy on the cruise ship and you will get my drift.) This year, because we were gone for an extensive period (12 days) I also worked about 70 hours during this trip editing photos. Yes my friends, I actually now need a real vacation. I also came back to having to shoot 2 weddings this weekend, so my jetlag is finally coming into play, so bear with me as I have to catch up on emails and getting more photos ready to ship. I recieved almost 1,207 emails while I was away; only 350 of those were spam.

The cool thing about my trip? My last two days were spent on the island of Capri, Italy. Guess who I saw there? Yep, Kim Kardashian in the flesh.

Thank you everyone, once again for "playing the lottery" with available session dates. I can't tell you enough how much I truly do appreciate you checking here to schedule sessions, and I know it is most def. a pain. I am so very lucky I have all of you you have either booked a session or tried to. I am not going to lie, I had a major stomach ache this morning when I posted dates. I SERIOUSLY HATE turning away people. But you have to understand, there is only so many hours in a day to work. The session is the easy part- it's the editing and preparing the session for send off that takes the most time. What I don't think anyone realizes is how much work is involved in editing. Just between having 2 weddings, sometimes 3 in a weekend, I am already working about 73 hours a week- not including ANYTHING else but shooting weddings and getting them edited. It's only me- I'm not superwoman, unfortunately; plus, I refuse to compromise on quality for you.

As for October, I am kicking around the idea to set a certain location on certain days to minus the drive time to other locations. This way I can add in more sessions because I know October is a busy month and everyone loves fall. Keep in mind however, that I have a wedding in the Dominican Republic to shoot, as well as some continuing education classes that I am possibly taking abroad to keep up my skills.

So, for ALL sessions including the following: Engagement Sessions, Baby Sessions, Family Sessions, Trash the Dress Sessions, Boudoir Sessions, Office Sessions, Pet Sessions, Maternity Sessions and Senior portrait Sessions, I am doing something different for 2011-

For the past 6 years, I have been booking anywhere from 3 to 6 months in advance for sessions, which is not only very difficult for you to schedule that far in advance, but it also has been quite difficult for me as well. You see, because I work almost every weekend, during the week and on some Sundays is the I only time I get "me" time, or even time to spend with my family. For years I have been missing out on during the week soccer games, birthday parties and other family affairs because I was booked out so far for sessions during the week. To help alleviate your wait time as well as me being able to attend family functions and not be shunned by my parents (lol!) I am trying out the following for this coming year:

SESSION SPECS:

*The cost is $175 for Family/Children Sessions (for families up to five people); non-client Engagement Sessions, Senior Portraits, Trash the Dress Sessions and Boudoir Sessions. Payment is due the day of the session, and travel fees are as follows:

*Anything within 15 miles of Dearborn, MI 48124 there is no extra fee; 15-25 miles $35; 26-40 miles $45; (over 40 miles, please inquire)

*Engagement sessions for booked wedding photography clients of Amanda Williams Photography: $150 Same travel fees listed above apply.
